A practical guide to hardware configuration, block structures, and industrial control loops.

This course provides a technical overview of programming Siemens S7 PLCs, focusing on the integration of hardware and software configurations. It covers the function and application of various block types including OBs, FBs, FCs, DBs, and variable tables. Participants will examine the setup of CPU 414 hardware, including local and remote I/O modules, and learn to implement control logic for industrial processes such as tank level management. The material bridges the gap between hardware setup and functional code development for real-world control loops.
Topics Covered:

Senior Control System Engineer
Control systems engineer with 17+ years delivering PLC, DCS and SCADA systems across mining, mineral processing, water treatment, transport infrastructure and fertilizer production, in Australia, North America and the Middle East. I currently lead control system work at Mipac on DCS and PLC/HMI modernisation projects for mining clients in the US and Canada. My focus is the front end that sets a project up to succeed: process control system specifications, OT network architecture and segmentation, alarm management, and the design documentation that system integrators build from. What I bring: DCS architecture – Emerson DeltaV specifications, OT network segmentation, VLAN/IP plans, virtualisation, historian and backup/recovery design PLC/HMI modernisation – Rockwell PlantPAx code development and live cut-overs into running plants with minimal disruption Full lifecycle delivery – FDS, IO schedules, FAT/SAT, commissioning and MOC Standards – ISA-18.2 alarm management and IEC 62443 OT security Platforms – DeltaV, ControlLogix/PlantPAx, Schneider (Unity Pro, M340, M580, Citect), ABB 800xA, Siemens, AVEVA/Wonderware Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng, NER), RPEQ, P.Eng (BC), exida Functional Safety Practitioner (FSP) and PMP.
